Thursday – April 23, 2026 – at sea to Cape Town day 3
Birthdays while on board Magnifica are normally celebrated during the evening meal. The wait staff make noise by clanking ice buckets and plate covers while singing “Happy Birthday”. They parade through the restaurant with the birthday person’s waiter carrying a cake and placing it in front of the celebrant. So, what to do if you want to celebrate with people who are not assigned to your table but with whom you share breakfast most days? The answer is obvious – have the wait staff celebrate at breakfast – and that is exactly what Shiv arranged for Richard’s birthday today! Today’s featured photo shows our breakfast group with Richard at the right and (clockwise) Shiv, Yvonne, Carl, Jan, me, Deborah and Joe. Shiv also managed to get a chocolate cake – all those I have seen do date have been vanilla. We had a nice breakfast and Richard appeared to have been surprised by the recognition.
Included with today’s gallery are a couple photos from World Cruise games. Today we played a type of darts using Velcro balls and a circular target. The object of the game was to score the highest point total. Air did not have the highest score – but we did hit the target several times. This evening we found an ice sculpture as we entered the dining room. It was America Night so the sculpture of an eagle was appropriate. You’ll find a photo and a video of the sculpture in the gallery. The video includes Kelsey wearing a dress she picked up in 2025 when we docked at Dakar, Senegal.
Today’s gallery is here.
