We are traveling up the West coast of Chile to our next port – Puerto Chacabuco. This are is filled with islands which create a breakfront from the Pacific Ocean. The ship provided a list of landmarks that we would be passing in the early hours of the morning culminating with a point where the ship would stop and make a 360 degree turn so everyone on port and starboard sides could view Pae Glacier. However, the point at which we would reach Pae Glacier was 5:30 am. I don’t know if I would have made it a point to wake up to see a chunk of ice that early in the morning – but fortunately, I didn’t have to. I set my camera to take a time-lapse video beginning at 5:13 and ending at 6:43 am. So in the middle is where we spun around to look at the glacier. The featured image for this post is that glacier. Jan thinks the bottom looks like a person walking or running. More about the Glacier later.
We had noticed that the last couple days our cabin was cold even though I had moved the thermostat to the highest setting. I called guest services and reported it to Leonardo our cabin steward and we left for breakfast and World Cruise games. The game today was to move a styrofoam cup turned upside down through a maze on a tabletop using the air from balloons. Not as easy as it might seem. Lots of people seemed to have trouble even blowing up the balloon. Then when they aimed the neck of the balloon at the cup they didn’t release the balloon’s contents at the correct rate – either too slow or too fast. Only 1 of the 4 teams was able to get a cup across the table so they won the point today. There are a couple videos showing the game and one at the end announcing tomorrow’s game – Pictionary.
We had lunch in the restaurant. Jan liked the dessert she chose – picture is included in today’s gallery. We returned to our cabin and within a few minutes were answering the door to a HVAC maintenance man and a cabin steward supervisor. Each cabin has its own heating/cooling unit and ours wasn’t heating (which we already knew). He adjusted the thermostat with his phone using something he plugged into the bottom of the thermostat. Then he removed the ceiling panel to expose the unit. He checked that all connections were as they should be and offered to disconnect the shutoff linked to our balcony door if we wanted (shuts off the unit if the balcony door is open so they don’t heat or air condition the world). We could feel the heat immediately and were happy we would be sleeping warmer tonight. The repairman said he had been working on a unit further forward in the ship and almost threw up because of all the pitching and yawing the ship has been doing due to the waves.
By the way concerning repairs…we have had 3 times to call for help and each was answered quickly and the problem solved to our satisfaction. Then there is after-the-call follow up by the front desk to be sure the issue was resolved. Wouldn’t it be nice if all companies had that sense of how to service their customers!
The evening meal was a favorite of ours at home – glazed ham with clove. As prepared here they served it with potato puree and green beans with almond slivers. I included a photo of the ham and of one of the desserts – New York cheesecake. While at dinner I had brought the video of Pae Glacier on my iPad at Karen’s request so she could view it. Near the end of dinner the head waiter approached asking if he could see the video – he had seen me on other occasions with an iPad showing photos and video. I said I could give him a copy if he’d like but he didn’t have an iPhone so we couldn’t AirDrop to him. He suggested using an app called WhatsApp which I downloaded but I’m not familiar with. We settled on my creating a page for him on our website where he could view and download the video. I set it up after dinner and before we went to the show and let him know it was ready. His name is Wasiim and he is from Mauritius – a small island group to the East of Madagascar. He told me he thought his country had put a satellite in space. I wasn’t familiar with that and decided to check it later.
Following dinner we went to the Royal Theater for a show by Andy Bunger. He is a one-man-band that in this show played the vibraphone, pan flute and guitar. While he plays there is a display of other instruments being played by invisible people wearing white gloves. I suspect he did those as well. The name of his backup band is “The Invisibles”. He was good at what he did. I have included a selection of the pieces he played.

I agree Glacier looks like a person. Ham looked good. How many are on the ship? What game is Jan playing? I sent a e-mail did you get it?
Have no idea because people get on and off at ports.
Game is probably Zen Words.
E-mail about 1 month down, 3 to go?
