I didn’t know this ship could nearly remain stationary with the propellers turning but that is what happened today. The captain reported that he was going to set our speed so we were barely moving so that we would not arrive at Bay of Islands in the middle of the night. Arriving in the middle of the night would make most of the excursions uninteresting since we would have a hard time looking at the scenery – or finding tour guides at that time of day. So, we barely moved along the East cost of North Island as we made our way North to Bay of Islands. Today’s photo is of what appears to be a rock face on shore. It reminded me of the white cliffs of Dover on the East coast of England. We were perhaps 6-8 nautical miles offshore which accounts for the fuzzy nature of the image (sorry about that).
As with the text for Tuesday, I probably won’t get to it until our next day at sea – Monday March 10.
You can find today’s media here. Take a look at Butterflies – our ship’s “Reader’s Digest” modified version of Madame Butterfly.
