Bomboloni

Monday – May 4, 2026 – at sea to Mindelo day 4

What, you may ask, is bomboloni? It is the next best thing to a Krispy Kreme – or perhaps the equal to a Krispy Kreme! It is made fresh on board and every now and then offered to the passengers as a buffet item. This evening is “now and then” and the bakery chefs prepared a buffet on deck 13 with many bomboloni (as you can see from the photos in today’s gallery). Kelsey went to the buffet twice in order to bring back plenty for herself and Jan. Sonia is the one who introduced us to the word “bomboloni”. Upon hearing it I asked her if she meant Oscar Mayer bologna. She quite emphatically DID NOT, but I have intentionally used the word “bologna” any time it is appropriate to talk about a delicious doughnut.

You will note when you view today’s gallery that there is only 1 other item – a time lapse of today’s sunrise. You may see more of these as I have the opportunity to view them when we sail up the coast of Africa. But there shouldn’t be too many since we have only 12 more days till home and at least half those our balcony will not face East.
