Devil’s Tower Friday – April 17, 2026 – at sea to Port Louis day 2
The image for this post is a photo of a national monument in Wyoming – the Devil’s Tower. This site was made popular as a part of the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” which was released in 1977. Why, you may ask, is it being displayed on a cruise around the world? This photo and many more were projected as a pianist performed for a presentation titled “Vivace – Notes of Nature”. Perhaps the definition of the word “vivace” will help describe this afternoon show and “notes of nature” provides the support for the photo of the Devil’s Tower. Other scenes used for the show included in today’s gallery are Horseshoe Bend (Arizona), Grand Prismatic Spring (Yellowstone National Park – Wyoming) and Antelope Canyon (Arizona). There were many other photos but I thought 4 in the gallery would give you an idea what was presented. In addition, our family has visited all 4 of these sites with fond memories of each.
The only other photos in today’s gallery are from the evening show – A Tribute to Edith Piaf. I didn’t attend this show and had to look up “Edith Piaf” to understand why there would be a tribute for her. For those of you who may not be familiar with her and did not click on the link embedded in her name, she was a French singer who lived from 1915 to 1963 and was known for the song “La Vie en rose”. Her life was noteworthy enough to have a movie released in 2007 – La Vie en rose – that won several Academy Awards including Best Actress.
Tomorrow we will arrive in Port Louis, Mauritius – a new port for us but one we knew of from our interaction with a head waiter on the 2025 World Cruise. His name is Wasiim Maherally. He would stop by our table at dinner to view the photos I had taken during excursions. He left the cruise while we were sailing around South America. We were told there had been a family emergency – the reason for his sudden departure. We had hoped we might see him this year, but he was not among the 2026 crew and we haven’t discovered if he returned to MSC. We wished we could have renewed our friendship but, as with life on land, you can’t always get what you want (that sounds like a good song title).
The gallery for today is here.
