Sunday – April 5, 2026 – at sea to Singapore day 2
Today’s featured photo is the electronic bulletin from the Christian Easter service on board MSC Magnifica.
Easter on the ship is different than Easter at home (along with the events that usually accompany it). There is plenty of decorating as you can see from the gallery today. The World Cruise game was also Easter themed – we were to create bunnies using vegetables. There was a chocolate give-away in the buffet of some of the Easter decorations (also a photo in the gallery). But the big difference between this year and last year was that we had a service to acknowledge the real significance of Easter – the resurrection of Christ! Early in the cruise Jan and I had breakfast with a couple from Bavaria – Peter and Petra. Peter is a Lutheran minister. We told them there was no Easter service in 2025 and they set out to change that for 2026. Along the way they found another minister – Frank – (during an exercise class) and created an order of service that would appeal to many denominations.
The featured photo shows what was included in the service (which was held in the theater). It included singing, scripture, a message, prayer (in 6 languages) and time to meet those attending the service. I had offered to help if needed – they asked if I would read Mark 16:1-6 (King James). It has been some time since I have read from the King James translation but I managed to complete the reading. I don’t know the exact count of those who attended, but looking out from the stage while reading it seemed to be several hundred (hard to tell with the spotlight in your face).
Following the service, we went to the buffet with Edgar and Caca (from San Diego). On the way into the buffet, they were passing out hunks of milk, white and dark chocolate. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get some of that (photo in gallery).
The entertainment this evening was the Big Gospel Choir. They performed on the 2025 World Cruise. I wished they had come to the service earlier that day to lead a least one of the songs for us. Their show this year was impressive.
Tomorrow, we reach Singapore. Last year our exposure to Singapore was only the time it took to change planes as we flew from Sydney to the Maldives after our Australian excursion. We are looking forward to getting to know Singapore better.
