Moving Slowly

Wednesday – March 5, 2025

I didn’t know this ship could nearly remain stationary with the propellers turning but that is what happened today. The captain reported that he was going to set our speed so we were barely moving so that we would not arrive at Bay of Islands in the middle of the night. Arriving in the middle of the night would make most of the excursions uninteresting since we would have a hard time looking at the scenery – or finding tour guides at that time of day. So, we barely moved along the East cost of North Island as we made our way North to Bay of Islands. Today’s photo is of what appears to be a rock face on shore. It reminded me of the white cliffs of Dover on the East coast of England. We were perhaps 6-8 nautical miles offshore which accounts for the fuzzy nature of the image (sorry about that).

As this is a day at sea we had a World Cruise game today. When we arrived there was a table for each team with 5 orange and 5 white towels and rolls of Scotch tape (or the Italian equivalent). A city was named and the teams were to use the towels to represent that city. For example – Rome. I believe everyone tried to make a colosseum. There were 3 judges from the housekeeping department who made the decision which team did the best job. Included in today’s media are videos of the teams competing and their artistic renderings. Of course Air didn’t win – but we tried hard and had a very good Eiffel Tower. Next game is “Fill in the sign”. No clue…

Next in today’s media are photos of selections from the lunch and dinner menus. Sharon will probably like the surf and turf for dinner – nice looking surf items!

Dinner was followed by a nice sunset. There are a couple still and a time-lapse of that.

The show today was a “Reader’s Digest” version of the opera Madame Butterfly. The show was named “Butterflies. Nice costuming and singing but, again, not in English so don’t know what was being sung.
