We Made It To Marseille

With us is Francene. She provided transfer from the Marseille airport to the Hotel NH Collection Marseille. During the 25 minute drive we learned a bit about the history of the area (including the Islet of If where the Count of Monte Cristo was imprisoned). During the journey from Munich we saw an unusual spot at the Munich airport – the Camel Smoking Lounge. The outside of the room is clearly labeled “Smoking Kills” but people kept coming in to use it. Our plane was similar to a Boeing 737 with seats not as comfortable as the ride from Chicago. The snack was a small piece of Lindt chocolate. Our bags were nearly the last on the carousel but they all arrived safe and sound. The area where we are staying until Monday is located near the center of the old city. Scooters abound and a tram runs just outside the hotel. We hadn’t eaten much (breakfast from previous post at 3:30 am CST and the chocolate snack at 10:00 am CST) so at 1:00 pm CST/8:00 pm in Marseille, went to a restaurant that specializes in pizza. They serve Coke Zero but it is labeled in French (who would have thought). Kelsey ordered a pizza topped with “rocket” (look it up – you’ll recognize another name for this garnish). Then we walked the short distance back to the hotel (pictured behind Jan and Kelsey in the last photo here). We are off Sunday to discover what we can and plan to visit the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica.
