Today we lounged around the ship. The day started with an interesting sunrise. We weren’t pointed so we could see the actual sunrise but we did catch the effect it had on the clouds. And 3/4 of the way through that video is an interesting thing – a cruise ship going backward. Actually, that is what our ship did yesterday when we docked. They use the bow thrusters and help from a tub to get into the pier.
We found that the Rio de la Plata river is similar to the Mississippi (at least the delta portion) in that is has lots of sediment. That is why the water looks brown. The river is only 180 miles in length and has a mouth 140 miles across. I included a couple photos to show the brown color.
We went to the buffet for breakfast and found they have donuts – not Krispy Creme – but you can put fresh whipped cream on them. I got the whipped cream all over my face. Following breakfast we went to the area near the indoor pool and the girls played a card game called “Trash”. Kelsey whooped Jan’s butt.
Early on Sunday a large container ship arrived in the harbor. The cranes had been working on it every time we looked out our balcony. I made a time-lapse video showing how you should offload a container ship. The crane second from the right offloaded 22 containers in a 90 minute period. I don’t know how many this ship has between below deck and above but at that rate with 5 cranes I would think you could finish offloading in a day or two.
We had an interesting offering for dinner today – Argentinian fare. Kelsey’s entrée was not Argentinian but she said it was good. The grilled rib-eye was tasty but not marbled like we have at home. It was prepared with roasted sweet peppers and potatoes. Nice choice.
Dinner finished in time for us to go to deck 14 and watch the sail away. It is a bit sad to leave each of these ports but in every case the sail away gives you a chance to think about all the sights, sounds, smells and experiences you’ve had at that port. The sunset tonight wasn’t like that we saw Friday, but it was spectacular in it own way. The featured photo for this post shows the waining light reflected off the glass of some of Buenos Aires’ tall buildings. Our view of the city changed as we moved slowly past the breakwater and released the rope between MSC Magnifica and the tug.
Don’t cry for us, Argentina. We had a great time in Buenos Aires and we are looking forward to our explorations in Puerto Madryn on 1-29 and Ushuaia on 2-3.

Glad you are remembering how to play trash! It keeps us busy huh. Leaving port is bitter sweet but you have more adventures coming soon. Glad you are enjoying your trip.
