Yacht Club Dinner

Friday – April 24, 2026 – at sea to Cape Town day 4

About a month ago a new head waiter came on board and one morning made his way through the breakfast crowd introducing himself. When he came to our table he told us he would be overseeing the Yacht Club restaurant (which currently only serves evening meals). He told us that we would be able to eat as a group at the Yacht Club but didn’t provide any details. Over the course of a couple weeks we kept reminding him of his promise when we would see him around the ship. We realized that he didn’t have our cabin information so we took the bull by the horns and stopped at the Yacht Club reservation desk a couple days ago to see if we could take advantage of his promise. On the spot he asked how soon we would like to dine there. We gave him a couple days that were full and he made a reservation for April 24th. Today’s featured photo shows our breakfast group at the only table in the Yacht Club that seats 8. We are (left going clockwise) Richard, Shiv, Carl, Yvonne, Jan, me, Deborah and Joe. At present the menu in the Yacht Club is identical with what is offered in the other restaurants but the serving dishes, glasses and flatware are a notch up. When the Yacht Club is fully operational on Magnifica (May 18, 2026), a different menu will be available with more and better food offerings. Our meal was very good and the service was excellent.

Knowing we would all be together for dinner, we invited our breakfast tablemates to our cabin for prosecco, tequila and snacks. Our butler, Lezle, prepared the room by cleaning all the deck chairs, bringing them in, providing a bucket of ice to chill the bottles, getting plates and glasses and having all that ready for us when we finished our dinner. There is a photo of our group in our cabin in the gallery. That get together lasted (for Carl, Jan and I) until 1:30 in the morning. The other guests left around 11:30 pm. We didn’t finish all the snacks and drinks so we plan to have another get-together sometime before we disembark.

The other photos in today’s gallery are of bar supplies given each team for today’s game – to make mixed drinks of specific types. Once more, Air was not successful as the winner of this game – we weren’t even close because those mixing the drinks were not listening to instructions from members who knew how to make the drinks. One of the drinks to mix was a margarita – ours looked nothing like it should. Jan was very frustrated because the people mixing the drink either didn’t understand English or simply refused to take direction. I’m not sure we would have won if we have mixed the drinks correctly, but we certainly could have placed better than we did.

Now only 2 days until we reach Cape Town and 3 days until we see the South African penguins!

Gallery for today is here.
